[edit] Information

Since Japan's Shinkansen bullet train service went into operation 50 years ago, it has prided itself on its high speed, high safety and punctuality unrivaled in any other country. It boasts a record of no passenger fatalities caused by accidents, and an average delay of only 30 seconds from the scheduled time. Thanks to the use of aerodynamics and world-class environmental measures, combined with Japanese technological expertise, the Shinkansen is now on the verge of entering an era of running at 500 kilometers per hour. This program examines the cutting-edge technology used by Japan's high-speed trains, and the worldwide attention it is attracting. Presenter: Anthony Robins. Narrator: Bill Sullivan. Full title: High Speed, High Safety: The world-class technology of Shinkansen.
